Leave messages

The message sent when a member leaves: channel, embed, placeholders, and how it differs from welcome.

A separate page from Welcome

A member's avatar exits and a goodbye embed posts with the server's updated member count. Goodbye, Jordan. We hope to see you again. 248 members

Leave messages have their own page, their own enabled switch and their own channel - turning them on never touches the welcome message, and editing one never blanks the other, even though both are saved through the same settings endpoint.

Each also has its own module (welcome and leave), so a server can run either without the other.

Leave channel
Where the goodbye embed posts. Required - nothing sends without one.
Enabled
A separate switch from the channel. Both need to be set.

The embed fields

Embed title
Defaults to "Member Left".
Message
Supports placeholders - see below.
Color
Defaults to red. Independent of the welcome message's color.
Image URL
A direct https:// link to a PNG, JPG or GIF. Left blank, it falls back to the server-wide default image if one is set.

Placeholders

{user}
A mention of the member who left. Discord renders it as their name rather than a live ping once they are gone.
{userTag}
Their username, without a ping.
{server}
The server's name.
{memberCount}
The member count right after they left.

Unlike the welcome message, leave messages have no button field - there is nothing left to click through to for someone who has gone.

What it cannot tell you

A leave message only knows the member is gone, not why. Discord does not distinguish a voluntary leave from a kick or ban in the event it sends - those are separate audit log entries, reported through the security log channel and anti-nuke, not through the leave message.
