A custom command in Noxyr is a new name for a command the bot already has. Your server can make $store run $shop, $done run $ticket close, or $gnitro start a giveaway with the prize already filled in. You build them on the Custom Commands page of the dashboard, with no code, and they are free. This guide covers what they are good for, how to make one, and the rules that keep them safe.

Why rename a bot command?

Every server has its own words. A shop calls it the store, a support team says "done" when a ticket is finished, and people who moved from another bot already type $p to play a song. Custom commands let members use the words they already know instead of learning the bot's. Staff type less, and new members guess right more often.

  • Shorter commands: $p, $np, $q and $s for the music player.
  • Your own wording: $store for the catalog, $vouch for leaving a review, $apply for staff applications.
  • One-word actions: $done closes a ticket, $claim claims it, $purge clears messages.
  • Commands with settings baked in: $bass turns on the bass boost filter, $repeat loops the whole queue.

How to make a custom command

  • 1. Open the Custom Commands page. Sign in to the Noxyr dashboard, pick your server, and open Control, then Custom Commands.
  • 2. Add one. Press New custom command, or open Templates and click one to add it finished.
  • 3. Name it. Type the new name in the Trigger box, for example store. Letters, numbers, - and _ only, up to 32 characters.
  • 4. Pick what it runs. Choose the command, and the action if it has several, such as ticket then close.
  • 5. Try it. It saves by itself about a second after you stop editing. Type $store in your server.

The page has two views of the same list. Graph shows each custom command as a Trigger wired into a Command, which is easy to read when some commands have preset values. Simple list shows plain rows. Both edit the same thing.

Preset values: commands with settings built in

A preset fills in one of the real command's options every time the custom command runs. $gnitro runs $giveaway create with the prize set to Discord Nitro, so staff only type the time and the number of winners: $gnitro 1h 1. Anything typed after the name is added on, and an option typed by name, like prize:"Gift card", replaces the preset for that one run.

Presets are checked when you save: a value has to fit the option (a number where a number is expected, one of the listed choices where there is a list), and it cannot contain double quotes or line breaks. The page points at the exact box to fix before anything is saved.

Templates to start from

The Templates list adds a complete custom command in one click. There are eighteen, grouped by what they do:

GroupTemplates
Music$p, $np, $s, $q, $dc, $vol, $repeat, $bass, $247
Tickets$done, $claim, $faqs
Store$store, $vouch
Community$gnitro, $apply, $lb
Moderation$purge

What custom commands cannot do

A custom command only renames. It cannot post a custom reply, run a script, or chain several commands; the real command decides what happens. That is on purpose: a custom name runs with the real command's permissions, module switch and cooldowns, so $purge is still limited to the people who can already clear messages. The original names keep working, and a custom command can never take the name of a real Noxyr command.

They also work as messages only. $store runs when typed with your prefix, but it will not appear in the / menu, because Discord lets a bot register one set of slash commands for everyone, not a separate set per server. If you have not used prefix commands before, prefix commands vs slash commands explains how the two compare.

Changing the prefix on the same page

Every custom command starts with your server prefix, $ by default. The Prefix box at the bottom of the Custom Commands page changes it for the whole server, custom commands and normal commands alike, and every name on the page switches to the new prefix as soon as you save. How to change a Discord bot's prefix covers picking one that does not clash with other bots.
